Dr. Maryam Khawari is an American Board-Certified Internist, Rheumatologist and Diplomate in American Board of Obesity Medicine. She has close to two decades experience in treating complex autoimmune conditions and various arthritides. She received her M.D. degree from Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI. She received her rheumatology fellowship training under leading experts at Medical College of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, where she participated in conducting clinical trials related to Systemic Sclerosis. Dr. Khawari served as Associate Professor at University of Kentucky before establishing private practice to serve Lexington’s community in Kentucky and later in Houston,TX.
Dr.Khawari is keenly interested in the association of obesity and autoimmune diseases.Both autoimmune diseases and obesity are chronic medical conditions and several studies have shown heightened immune responses seen in patients with obesity. Hence, she also incorporates evaluation and consultancy for obesity and its management, nutritional advice and pharmacological management for indicated BMIs.
Dr. Khawari is currently a member of the American College of Physicians, American College of Rheumatology and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
