Dr. Maryam Khawari, M.D.
Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, and Obesity Medicine
Dr. Maryam Khawari is a board-certified internist and rheumatologist with nearly 20 years of experience treating autoimmune diseases and various forms of arthritis. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, with a clinical focus on the connection between immune health and weight-related conditions.
Dr. Khawari earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where she also completed her fellowship in rheumatology. During her training, she worked with leading experts and participated in clinical trials related to Systemic Sclerosis.
She served as an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky before establishing her practice. She now provides care in both Lexington, Kentucky, and Houston, Texas.
Dr. Khawari has a strong clinical interest in the link between obesity and autoimmune diseases. Both are long-term medical conditions, and research shows that people with obesity often have increased immune activity, which may affect autoimmune health. As part of her care, she provides evaluation for obesity, guidance on nutrition, and medication support for patients with elevated BMI when appropriate.
Dr. Khawari is a current member of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Rheumatology, and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
